Local Ham Radio Operators are
Lake Chelan Radio Club members are participating in the annual Field Day. This event happens every year on the fourth full weekend in June. The event is a good exercise and helps operators learn the operating boundaries of radio propagation in their local area; and to brush up on individual skills for proper operating techniques and maximize your Field Day score! Ham operators nation wide strive to beat their last year score. Come and join us and take a look at our operation We will be operating at the top of McNeil Canyon this weekend June 25th for 24 hours beginning 10am Saturday morning.
Field day operation is performed usually in a remote location, preferably a local hill top, and the operator uses batteries or generators for power. Using non-commercial power, as the rules state, the operation is setup and operated in an emergency type situation — traditionally in a tent, outdoors. The complete event last for a continuous 24 hours.
The field day objective is to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations, in less than optimal conditions. Field Day is open to all amateurs in the areas covered by the ARRL/RAC Field organization.
ARRL Field Day is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada. Each year over 35,000 amateurs gather with their clubs, friends or simply by themselves to operate.
ARRL Field Day is not a fully adjudicated contest, which explains much of its popularity. It is a time where many aspects of Amateur Radio come together to highlight our many roles. While some will treat it as a contest, most groups use the opportunity to practice their emergency response capabilities. It is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Amateur Radio to local elected community leaders – key individuals with the organizations – that Amateur Radio might serve in an emergency, as well as the general public. For many clubs, ARRL Field Day is one of the highlights of their annual calendar.
About Lake Chelan Radio Club
The Lake Chelan Radio Club is a small group of hams residing in and around the Lake Chelan area, located in the center of Washington State. The club supports and maintains 2 meter and 440 repeaters, providing communication to the Lake Chelan valley and surrounding areas. The club's first repeater began serving the Lake Chelan valley faithfully since early 1980’s.
If you are traveling through the Lake Chelan area, feel free to key up and give us a call. The Lake Chelan Radio Club does not have a weekly check-in net, although a few members gather at the Coyote Cafe in Manson on the second Saturday of each month at 8:30 AM. The remaining active member activities focus on repeater control and maintenance.
